| THE MOTHER OF THE VET
Since man became a warrior, before deeds were written down, He indulged in legal slaughter to take the higher ground... There's always been the questions, who served their country best, There's only one true answer The Mother of the Vet. When you're in the heat of battle and the hand of death is near, There is always someone with you to help you through the fear, Not a soldier or a sailor but one who serves no less... The prayers of one who loves you The Mother of the Vet. Whenever veterans gather to reflect on battles past, Of gory days and glory days...we hold our memories fast, We toast each other's valor but there's one we all forget, The creator of our being The Mother of the Vet. So when swords are turned to plowshares, and the world is safe from fear, The one who served the longest will wipe away her tears, Once again the gods will ask...Who was bravest and the best... And the dogs of war will answer...Sir... The Mother of the Vet For this Veteran's Day, and and all the future Veteran Days, I dedicate this poem to those who never heard the command "ceasefire" but never-the-less served with the best: The Mother of the Vet.
